Skill trees and tooltips

  • With the release coming up, and some skills being shown online from the Steam version, I thought it'd be a good idea to start putting together the skills in text-form, with the ability to easily copy/paste them, and keep them updated (rather than screenshots).

Today I started working on this: https://domness.github.io/Bless-Skill-Tree/

I've only done a few skills so far for Paladin, but would you guys think it would be good to get it fully set up so we can put together things like rotation guides etc.?

  • Nice effort! I am not sure if the skill rotation/guides have any usage as a standalone stuff (Who will curate them? Who will decide which rotation is useful and when? What gear stats it requires to be useful?), but I can imagine it may be interesting to turn it into build-planner over time, including example/stored/most popular builds, which may also contain the rotations.

Since the work I've done so far is on GitHub (private currently, but planning to open it up after), people can help (if they can) push skill changes as we get balance patches and so on.

In terms of build guilds, the best thing would be to have some kind of wiki to build up rotations, however with the limited amount of freedom with Gamepedia, it may be easier to do something myself and host it.

Previously in Guild Wars 2 we had/have 2 main sources of information on the best builds:

https://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki (Wiki style - community based)

    https://snowcrows.com/benchmarks/ (Guild generated)

  • domness : Yes, I had also something like on the links you mentioned on my mind. But I consider that rather as an extension of something like the following: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ , which will allow you to fiddle with skills, gear, etc. and it shows the stats changes and so on. Both may be useful. :)

I'm hoping to move towards something like that in the future if this gets enough traction. Once I've added the rest of the classes/skills, I'll try and look at making it all a bit neater, and giving every skill an ID, API for them etc. This means it can act as an easy to use database to hold all the skills and then allow for better uses with things like the GW2Skills editor.
