Sticky [Guide] PVP & RVR

    • [Guide] PVP & RVR

The PVP system in BLESS is fairly complicated and the Google Translation results leave a lot to be desired. Here's what we can figure out about it at this time.
      1. There are two major modes of PVP: open world and battlegrounds ("It may scramble" and "Strasbourg").
      2. Open world can be unlimited number of players (though probably mostly small groups) and PVP is always on.
      3. Participating in RVR (Strausburg castle sieges) requires spending Fatigue.
        • At this time, it appears killing regular players in open world PVP does not cost Fatigue.
      4. Participating in PVP also helps your guild earn influence/reputation, but we don't know how much is earned.
      5. There is a cash shop item that allows you to turn off PVP for your character for a limited amount of time. (Scroll to end of post to read how it works.)
      6. Participating in PVP earns you currency (honor) to be used to purchase a class set, and you gain XP.

There are 4 different settings a zone can have regarding PVP
      1. Peace Area. No PVP allowed.
      2. Conflict Area. PVP allowed.
      3. Faction Protected Area. "Faction specific aggressive non-Area". I assume that means you can attack your own faction?
      4. Friendly Protected Areas. "Faction-specific aggressive coverage area". Maybe this means you cannot attack your own faction.

      PVP Ranks
      1. PVP ranks are leaderboards that cover the past 10 days of PVP activity.
      2. The top 18 ranks are displayed in the leaderboard on the server.
      3. The character's level, class, and rank are displayed.

      Strasbourg Siege (castle siege)

      1. Strasbourg is apparently 100v100 in an hour-long timed event. You queue up for this event like arenas or battlegrounds in most MMOs.
      2. Based on your level, Strausburg cost over 60 Fatigue per queue and went up to well over 75 Fatigue by level 29 or 30.
      3. Strausburg required players to be level 25+ to queue.
      4. Strausburg also auto-leveled everyone to the cap (level 45 for CBT3), so there is some normalization that is occurring.
      5. There are 2 castles, one at either end of the map, and Points of Interest to control in the middle.
      6. There are three paths to reach the enemy castle: left, middle, right.
      7. Leaderboards will constantly update during the hour-long fight to show medals earned, number of enemy players you killed, number of enemies you contributed to killing, and which faction is in the lead.

      It's A Scramble
      1. From what I can tell, this can occur at different times during the day.
      2. This is a Guild vs. Guild arena battle.
      3. A GM has to sign up to have a specific match against another specific guild.
        • GMs have to decide if they will be the attackers or the defenders.

      • Winners earn a governance currency that can be spent at a specific NPC in the guild NPC area of the capitol cities.

Here's how the cash shop item works.
      1. The cash shop item makes you unattackable in PVP-enabled zones costs 70 gems each.
      2. The buff only lasts for 10 minutes!
      3. The cooldown on the item is 60 minutes!! So only 15% of your game time can you prevent PVP.
      4. Once your storyline progresses passed level 28 or so, you are in open world PVP territory. I was trying to gather and was ganked by a 5-man group.
      5. Quest hubs and even major camps with several buildings and dozens of NPCs and guards are not PVP-free. There were enemy faction archers sitting on ledges they climbed up behind the quest fortress attacking guards and players who couldn't retaliate. (NOTE: Going AFK will probably guarantee you are killed.)
      6. IF you have the peace buff on and you phase into story content, the buff gets removed and you lose all remaining time for that buff.

    • So, fatigue is used only in THIS particular PvP event? I mean, outside the "pre-organized" event (on the normal field, normal maps, obviolusly where the PvP is allowed), what happen if you kill an enemy?

Also, if the fatigue is 70 points each match, it mean that you can do it 3 times a day... i don't see that a main problem at all, until the open field PvP does have not fatigue relationship...

To queue for RVR (the only structured PVP in the game), you spend Fatigue.

If you get on your dragon mount and fly over to the other half of the continent, land in a PVP-enabled zone, and start killing players, I'm assuming that will not costs Fatigue because killing mobs doesn't costs Fatigue.

We haven't tested this as all zones were marked as no-PVP enabled. Now that the first round of bidding has occurred for ownership, it may be possible some zones will be PVP-enabled, but we don't know the exact rights guilds have in owning their territories.
    • Have lots to add to this later tonight. However, if the system stays in as-is, I won't be playing BLESS at launch. :( I absolutely despise forced-PVP where you can be 100% prevented from doing any quests or story progression if you're camped or if the opposing faction decides to gank you repeatedly.
      1. The cash shop item to make you unattackable in PVP-enabled zones costs 70 gems.
      2. The buff only lasts for 10 minutes!
      3. The cooldown on the item is 60 minutes!! So only 15% of your game time can you prevent PVP.

      6. IF you have the peace buff on and you phase into story content, the buff gets removed and you lose all remaining time for that buff.
IF the "peace" buff lasted an hour, MAYBE I could see the 70 gems being worth it. As is, it's essentially just usable for rushing in, doing a story quest or 2-3 quests max, then that's it.

From what I can see, I spent an entire "day" in the same zone. The crossed-swords, always-on PVP didn't change based on time of day, so I'm not sure if some zones are just 100% PVP or what may change that condition in some zones.

    • You still miss the main part Org, this game require a lot a cooperative social part that you can't acquire right now: Clan and Alliances.

Since you are into the Korean server and there are not many english people, it's pretty hard to build up a proper organized Clan, because with a well organized Clan, you can step out on the enemy zone without fear...

That is how it was in DAOC, and that is what i see it here... finally again...

I'm not missing that at all. I do not play games that force me to always be grouped just to do simple things like gathering and trying to quest. If they offered a PVP flag that I could turn off so I could spend my time in game how I wanted to, that'd be completely different. That's not how it works, and I have no interest in constantly being ganked, so I won't be playing in the current iteration. If rulesets change in the US, great.

Having more English speakers doesn't mitigate that requirement.

I really hope that the PvP will be keept as DAOC/L2, then, if someone does not want to PvP, will do a donation for the "white flag" and get the PvP disabled.

BUT, beside that, the PvP MUST be "free on sight"

    • Well the koreans could organize it if they wanted to, but we already see groups of 5 people walking into open pvp zones and doing like you said, but of course it's not the same thing that you have in mind and wish to see it, but it's somehow similar to it.
Unfortunately this game isn't like the one you mention and other certain games, for example "Metin2" where you could go to the other realm or kingdom and kill whoever you wanted, etc.

There's safe zones and pvp allowed zones on both factions, one of the things that i intend to do, is to invade the Union Faction with my guild or just a group of people and get into one of those areas where pvp between different factions is allowed then i would probably attack some random guild with land, territory or castle, etc. Maybe i can even make an alliance with a enemy faction guild and help them out who knows xD , it might be probably impossible to do it. Since they are restricting a lot of things regarding random invasions to the opposing faction.

But yea aside from that, i think organic got everything right, if there's something he didn't then it would probably be the fact that bless haven't met our expectations or something like that.
